In 2025, Skegness artist Steve Gould crossed borders and stories, launching his first book in Germany as part of Gandersheim Reads — a three-day festival of books held in our twin town, Bad Gandersheim. Invited as a guest author, Steve presented his latest work, fresh off the press.
The book has since found a permanent home in the new library in Bad Gandersheim, with copies also reaching towns and villages across the region — including Goslar and Einbeck — through the 'Living in a Box project', which places free books in repurposed telephone boxes now transformed into community book exchanges.
A special highlight came when German author and journalist Margarete von Schwarzkopf received a signed copy, saying she looked forward to reading it to her grandchildren.
Living in a Box has now become part of the ongoing Two Voices project — an ever-evolving collaboration that celebrates the arts and culture shared between our partnership towns. From larger cities to smaller rural communities, the journey has been filled with meaningful encounters and creative connections.
Steve will return to Bad Gandersheim in 2026 with his 'tail of two towns'
