Two Voices / Zwei Stimmen 2015 ~ 2025
Connecting Bad Gandersheim with Skegness through art, culture and conversation.
As a passionate advocate for cultural diplomacy, John Byford has played a key role in strengthening the bond between Skegness and its twin town, Bad Gandersheim in Germany. His Two Voices project - a repurposed British telephone box transformed into a striking art installation - was unanimously approved by the city council in 2014 and now stands as a lasting symbol of communication and unity between the two towns.
Since its unveiling in 2015, the installation has hosted a series of exhibitions, undergone five vibrant colour transformations, and become a much-loved local landmark - warmly embraced by the community and cherished by visitors alike.
A recent and meaningful addition to the project is an historic bench, now placed opposite the installation. It offers a quiet space for reflection, conversation, and connection - further reinforcing the spirit of friendship and shared culture at the heart of Two Voices.

Als leidenschaftlicher Verfechter kultureller Diplomatie hat John Byford eine zentrale Rolle dabei gespielt, die Verbindung zwischen Skegness und seiner Partnerstadt Bad Gandersheim in Deutschland zu stärken. Sein Two Voices - Projekt – eine umfunktionierte britische Telefonzelle, die in eine eindrucksvolle Kunstinstallation verwandelt wurde – wurde 2014 einstimmig vom Stadtrat genehmigt und steht heute als dauerhaftes Symbol für Kommunikation und Einheit zwischen den beiden Städten.
Seit seiner Einweihung im Jahr 2015 hat die Installation eine Reihe von Ausstellungen beherbergt, fünf farbenfrohe Verwandlungen durchlaufen und sich zu einem beliebten Wahrzeichen entwickelt – herzlich angenommen von der Bevölkerung und geschätzt von Besuchern aus nah und fern.
Eine bedeutende neue Ergänzung des Projekts ist eine historische Bank, die nun gegenüber der Installation platziert wurde. Sie lädt zum Verweilen, Nachdenken und zum Austausch ein – und unterstreicht einmal mehr den Geist der Freundschaft und des kulturellen Miteinanders, der im Zentrum von Two Voices steht.
